I wish to express my gratitude...

I wish to express my gratitude through one of the Christian Science periodicals for a healing I received several years ago which changed my outlook on life. Several members of my family, upon whom I had been relying for love, guidance, and support, passed on in quick succession. I immediately went through a period of great mental darkness which resulted in a nervous breakdown.

A Christian Science practitioner took up prayerful work for me and continued to help me at intervals for a considerable period of time. I pay tribute to her loyalty to Truth, which healed this condition. She met the demand for consecration by proving this statement, which appears on page 448 of "Science. and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "If the student adheres strictly to the teachings of Christian Science and ventures not to break its rules, he cannot fail of success in healing." As busy as this practitioner was, she would frequently read the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly with me, and I gained the benefit of her study of it.

A statement I was often given to study was this one (ibid., p. 4): "What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds." There were days when fear and discouragement crept in, but we persevered, and the healing finally came. Through the work of this same practitioner I was led to find employment in the business world. This was a wonderful demonstration of God's availability, for I had never worked except at household duties.
