A healing of intestinal influenza...

A healing of intestinal influenza was outstanding to me. One of our little girls was sick with it during the night. I was alone with the children, as their father was away at the time. We had no telephone, and the oldest child was too small to send out at night for help.

I read to the sick child from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but the sickness continued. By this time fear began to overwhelm me. I thought that as soon as morning came, I would send word to a practitioner for help. In the meantime I prayed as we are taught to do in Christian Science and tried to see my daughter as God's perfect child. I kept on praying until the sun came up the next morning.

It was a foggy morning. The sunlight, however, was breaking through the fog. As I sat there declaring the truth to the best of my understanding, my attention was drawn to the sunbeams glancing through the fog. This thought came to me: Sickness can no more fasten itself to God's perfect image and likeness than the fog can fasten itself to the sunbeams. This thought was very clear to me, and I was so absorbed in it that I did not hear my little girl come down the stairs until she said: "Good morning, Mamma! Why are you up so early?" She was just beaming with joy. A short while before she had been moaning with pain. Now she was healed.
