My experience in Christian Science can be expressed in the words with which the Psalmist acknowledged God's care (Ps. 116:8): "Thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling." After I had worked for twenty-five years in a factory I suffered a nervous breakdown. A nerve specialist ordered a stay in a home for those suffering from nervous diseases. As my condition became visibly worse there, however, I returned home. Neither a chiropractor nor a so-called nature healer brought me the improvement I hoped for. Then I recalled that about fifteen years earlier my brother had been healed of kidney trouble through Christian Science treatment after he had been discharged from the hospital as incurable.

I visited a Christian Science Reading Room, where I was shown a list of practitioners in The Herald of Christian Science (German Edition). I called on one of them, and she began to work for me at once. At first my healing progressed but slowly, and I suffered from extreme melancholy. Several times I decided to end my life, but each time I was protected from doing so. Added to my other troubles was the problem of supply for my family, as I was unable to take up work in the factory again. Once a week I went to the practitioner, and step by step my healing progressed. It was complete in about a year, and in the meantime I was able to start my own small business. Through the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through the reading of the periodicals she established I learned that God gives to each of His children right and satisfactory employment in reflecting Him.

I also learned that true business means serving God, good, and that service to customers consists in expressing honesty, punctuality, intelligence, and love. I was able to purchase a truck, and my business prospered. Study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and attendance at a Church of Christ, Scientist, which I have done regularly for four years, are an inspiration and joy to me. I can no longer imagine myself without this redeeming religion.
