A LETTER TO A FRIEND

The Master came, and now that he is gone
I write to you just what it means to me—
Not just the words he said. There seems to dawn
A new and wondrous light. The trees and stars,
A little child—in everything I see
A new and glowing beauty. And yet more,
I now begin to know that nothing mars
The perfect universe. Please understand,
It is just like the opening of a door
Into a place of peace; no lovely veil
Has dropped just to conceal an evil land.
This is the truth. I feel God's presence near.
I know at last that I can never fail.
Since God is loving me, I cannot fear.
