It is now more than twenty years...
It is now more than twenty years since my first testimony appeared in the Sentinel. During the intervening years Christian Science has filled my life with blessings innumerable. It has helped me to find employment when I needed it, has brought about physical healings, and has given me an abiding consciousness of joy.
I should like to tell of two healings. The first was a very simple one, but its immediacy made of it a precious experience. I had cut the fleshy part of my thumb quite badly, and it was bleeding profusely. These words of Mary Baker Eddy's, which are found on page 475 of Science and Health, came to me: "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements. The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness."
Why, I thought, if I really accepted that statement of our Leader's as true this condition simply could not be! I looked at my hand and saw that the thumb had stopped bleeding and the cut had sealed. My heart was filled with love and reverence for this healing proof of God's ever-presence and power.
