I became interested in Christian Science...

I became interested in Christian Science when a friend of mine was healed instantaneously during her first visit to a Christian Science practitioner. Illness had kept her away from the office where we both had worked. When two doctors were unable to cure her, she turned to Christian Science and was healed.

Knowing that I too had been absent from the office for many months because of neuritis and extreme debility, she wrote to me of her wonderful healing. We soon met, and when I saw how completely well she was, I gladly accepted a copy of a Christian Science lecture. I read this several times, and in one week there was improvement in my condition. Eagerly I next read copies of the Sentinel and later obtained "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. During my first reading of this precious textbook, I was healed of the debility and neuritis, as well as of indigestion, insomnia, and headaches.

I am very grateful for these healings, but I do not think I should have continued the study of Christian Science had it given me only physical health. As I went on studying, I became happier and more peaceful than ever before. Gradually I found that what I was learning of God and man was helping me in every detail of my daily life. Science and Health is indeed a key to the Scriptures, and the Bible became much more precious to me as Christian Science brought assurance that the beautiful Biblical promises of salvation from sin, sorrow, and sickness are practical here and now. My love for Christ Jesus and my appreciation of his life and teachings steadily increased, and I gained some understanding of Mrs. Eddy's satisfying explanations concerning God. She says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 199), "We learn somewhat of the qualities of the divine Mind through the human Jesus."
