I wish to express my gratitude...
[Original testimony in French]
I wish to express my gratitude for an experience which I had in 1952. I was very ill, and my parents, not being Christian Scientists, sent for a doctor, who diagnosed my case as meningitis accompanied by fever and violent pains in the head. He treated me for several days with stronger and stronger doses of medicine and told my parents that I probably would not live.
When my condition did not improve, but rather grew worse, some friends who were consecrated Christian Scientists and my sister, formerly a pupil in the Sunday School, spoke to me of Christian Science and told me to trust wholly in God. I felt a great sense of comfort, but the violent pains in my head did not lessen.
Medical help having been discontinued, a practitioner was asked to work for me. One Sunday afternoon, when I was suffering very much, the practitioner came to see me and gave me a treatment. After a few moments I really felt the presence of God for the first time in my life. By Monday morning the fever had abated, although I still had a headache. The treatments were continued. On Thursday morning the pain had become intermittent, and I was able to take off the bandage which I had had over my eyes for a week.
One week later I was able to get up and walk about the apartment. The healing was complete. It was Christian Science, the Science which the practitioner knew so well and applied with such consecration, that saved me from death and restored me to health.
Since then I have studied this Science faithfully. I attend the science regularly at a Church of Christ, Scientist, and I have been able to apply the teachings of Christian Science effectively to various experiences in my daily life. I am truly happy to have learned to pray the prayer which has more to do with the heart than with the lips.
I should like to express my deep gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, to whom we are indebted for that marvelous textbook of practical instruction, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I do not have words to express all the gratitude I feel and all the love I have for a religion which brings us to a haven of mental and spiritual peace.—(Miss) Lucette Samèle, Cannes, France.
