ESCAPE FROM BABYLON

An original meaning of the word Babylon is "confusion." It also means the door that leads to a state of confusion; in other words, the way of false knowledge that leads to its own destruction. Mary Baker Eddy defines the word Babel in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 581) in part as. "A kingdom divided against itself, which cannot stand; material knowledge."

Babel first appears in the Bible as a tower which the children of men built in their attempt to reach heaven. "They had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter" (Gen. 11:3). What an appropriate description of false knowledge, which ignores the wisdom of God and builds on the opinions of men.

The call of the twentieth century is, "Return to God." No other way is open for the redemption of the human race. False knowledge has built its tower, and the result is a confusion of tongues, division, discord, atom bombs, hatred, fear, and death.
