When I asked a friendly woman...

When I asked a friendly woman living in the same hotel with me for something to read, she gave me "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy, and I began to read Christian Science literature to occupy my thought.

Soon I bought Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read it every free moment. I thought that it was wonderful, and the suggestion came to me, "Too bad it was not written by a man." This thought was strange to me, as I had never felt women to be inferior to men. When I realized that the suggestion was contrary to my own right thinking, I read on happily, and during the reading I had two healings. One was that of eyestrain and the other of a condition for which dietary rules had been laid down for me. I disregarded these rules, and there were no bad consequences. This was my first experience with aggressive mental suggestion of that nature, and its quick rejection brought blessings.

While driving my car one day I declared truths based on the presence and activity of the one Mind. When I reached my destination I drove to the curb to park and applied the brakes to stop the car. They did not hold, and the car went over the curb and the sidewalk, crashing into a board fence, where the front end of the car hung suspended over a steep drop. I felt no sense of fear or shock, and the only mark on the car was a slight paint scratch. I realized that my protection was due to my dwelling on thoughts of the one Mind, and I am very grateful.
