When I asked a friendly woman living in the same hotel with me for something to read, she gave me "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy, and I began to read Christian Science literature to occupy my thought.

Soon I bought Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read it every free moment. I thought that it was wonderful, and the suggestion came to me, "Too bad it was not written by a man." This thought was strange to me, as I had never felt women to be inferior to men. When I realized that the suggestion was contrary to my own right thinking, I read on happily, and during the reading I had two healings. One was that of eyestrain and the other of a condition for which dietary rules had been laid down for me. I disregarded these rules, and there were no bad consequences. This was my first experience with aggressive mental suggestion of that nature, and its quick rejection brought blessings.
