Christian Science was brought...

Christian Science was brought into our home by a neighbor at a time when improved thought was needed there. Because of my mother's study and application of the truth, the thinking of the entire family was uplifted. I have since been privileged to witness a number of wonderful healings in my own family, some of which I should like to share.

Several years ago our little son was extremely distressed by an infection in the nostril. He was listless for some time, and presently his face became swollen and unnatural in appearance. The temptation was to become greatly alarmed, but with the loving assistance of a practitioner the condition was quickly corrected. On another occasion a case of mumps was met rapidly, in spite of the severe swelling, and by the third day there was no evidence of the condition. Later scarlet fever attacked our child and me. Through the help of a practitioner the child was well almost at once, and it was necessary for me to remain in bed only one day. In two days I too was free.

While preparing a sugar confection, I unobservingly thrust four fingers of my left hand into a pan of boiling sugar. The sense of fright and pain was extreme, and for a moment I was unable to think of a single statement of truth. However, within seconds a great realization of the Father's love filled my consciousness, and fear was quieted by the words from the Bible (Acts 17:28), "In him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." This thought and the contemplation of "the scientific statement of being,"on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, enabled me to overcome the sense of accident and replace it with joy. As I rinsed the sticky mass from my fingers a few minutes later, there was not visible a single blister.
