FREEDOM FROM FEAR

Are we allowing fear to hold us in bondage to error of any kind? We read in the Bible (II Tim. 1:7), "God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." Therefore fear is no part of God's creation. God has given man dominion, for God is Mind and man reflects this Mind. Whatever comes to us that is not good has not come from God. We may know that it has no real existence or power because God is omnipotent, the only power. The more we allow fear to occupy our thought, the more real seems the problem to be overcome; but as we understand that there is in reality no need to fear, the way opens for the unfoldment of harmony in our experience.

In replying to the question, "Can fear or sin bring back old beliefs of disease that have been healed by Christian Science?" Mary Baker Eddy says in part (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 93): "Fear is a belief of sensation in matter: this belief is neither maintained by Science nor supported by facts, and exists only as fable. Your answer is, that neither fear nor sin can bring on disease or bring back disease, since there is in reality no disease."

Man is God's image and likeness, and we must deny the suggestion of the reality of anything that is opposed to the harmony of man. We have God-given authority to refuse thoughts of a sick body and to know that Mind is the source of all action and governs and controls man. What a joy to be able to prove the all-power of God and the nothingness of fear and disease! Christ Jesus admonished his followers (John 14:27), "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." As we understand God to be the only power, fear is destroyed and Truth silences discord with harmony.
