It was in 1937 that I first heard of Christian Science. I was living in a boardinghouse with a woman who was a student of this Science. After telling me about it, she kindly loaned me some of the authorized literature. I tried to read it, but I understood nothing of it. Seeing my lack of interest, she did not insist.

In 1948 my attention was again called to Christian Science. My physical condition was nothing to be envied. I had been wearing a steel corset for eight months, not to mention the plaster cast I had worn for two months before that, to ease the pain resulting from tubercular lesions. This time I heeded the still small voice and engaged a practitioner to help me.

My joy was unbounded when this single sentence, quoted to me by the practitioner, delivered me from my bondage (John 4:24): "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." I took off the steel corset and put it aside. Ever since then I have been perfectly free from the difficulty. Later I was healed of a nasal condition for which I had had an unsuccessful operation.
