TRUE GRATITUDE

True gratitude is the joyful acknowledgment of the love of God. It opens the way for both further understanding and proof of the omnipresence and omnipotence of God.

The mere release from the human problems of the moment may bring a sense of relief, but the warmth of true gratitude is not contingent upon improved human situations. It is often recognized that gratitude for God's omnipotence, omnipresence, and love precedes the outward manifestation of healing. The abiding conviction of God's love and care for His creation brings into our experience unshakable gratitude, peace, and joy.

On page 11 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we find the statement, "Prayer cannot change the unalterable Truth, nor can prayer alone give us an understanding of Truth; but prayer, coupled with a fervent habitual desire to know and do the will of God. will bring us into all Truth." Through the study of Christian Science we find this "fervent habitual desire" accompanied by gratitude for God's omnipotence. This religion teaches its followers to lean radically on God.
