How humbly grateful to God I...
How humbly grateful to God I am for the angel thought that led me into the redemptive truth of Christian Science. It came to me at a time when I was discouraged with the mortal way of life and cried out in despair to God, "O Father, raise me up from this pit of darkness." The still small voice of Truth answered, "There is a way out for you: go to the Christian Science Reading Room." I obeyed this angel thought and found the truth that quenches all longings.
To avoid inharmony in my family I had to submit to a physical examination following the passing of a dear one. The doctor told my husband that I had a tumor and was in need of surgical treatment. With the help of a Christian Science practitioner I took up prayerful work and held to this statement in "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 60): "This false sense of substance must yield to His eternal presence, and so dissolve." Within six months the tumor had disappeared.
Another healing was that of paralysis of the face. I awoke one morning with my face distorted beyond recognition, and my family called a doctor. He said that it was the worst case he had ever seen and that there was nothing he could do for me. My family then allowed me to work out the problem by relying only on God. Day and night I studied, and I carefully watched my thinking. I had to overcome self-will self-justification, a bad temper, and fear for the welfare of our two boys, who were in the service. Trusting God for my well-being, I humbly prayed for the healing qualities of divine Mind. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 414): "Keep in mind the verity of being,—that man is the image and likeness of God, in whom all being is painless and permanent. Remember that man's perfection is real and unimpeachable, whereas imperfection is blameworthy, unreal, and is not brought about by divine Love." The healing came, and as a result of it members of my family came into Christian Science and became earnest students of it.
