For a long time I have read with...
For a long time I have read with interest and profit the testimonies appearing in The Christian Science journal and in the Sentinel. Now I feel that I should share my enriching experiences with others.
Before I found Christian Science I did not know what it meant to eat what I wanted to eat. I ate what I felt I could eat and be free from discomfort. I was near a state of nervous prostration, and in addition was suffering from anemia, which a doctor had said would doubtless develop into a disease more difficult to eradicate.
Weary of drugs that had proved ineffectual, I turned to physical culture for the restoration of my health. I was as much a slave to exercises, however, as I had been to medicine, so fearful was I that if I missed taking them for one day, I would pay the penalty in added suffering. Later I turned to homeopathy, but with no better results than before.
Then I met a young woman who was a Christian Scientist. She had what I did not have but was eager to possess—peace, poise, and joy. She referred me to a Christian Science practitioner, and through the prayerful work that was done for me I received my healing, for which I shall never cease to be grateful.
I should like to tell of the following instance of protection that occurred on an automobile trip I took with three other persons who were not Christian Scientists. The man at the wheel drove so rapidly that I felt the need of declaring the truth every moment for our protection. At one point the car went over a steep embankment. Just as it was about to plunge into the gorge below, this angel message came to my expectant thought: "God is right here." The car came to a halt at the very edge of the chasm, and I gratefully recalled the Biblical statement (Prov. 16:1), "The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord."
The workman from the garage who came to get the car back onto the road voiced his astonishment and exclaimed, "How could the car have stopped at such an angle?" This proof of God's protection brought a new song to my heart.
While at the Reading Room preparing for my Sunday School class a lesson that would heal and save and resurrect, I was disturbed by a cut on the inside of my cheek which had been giving me trouble. I denied it and affirmed the truth to counteract it. Then I proceeded with my study. When I closed my books the cut was completely healed. The healing had come through my being "willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord," as Paul says (II Cor. 5:8).
With a grateful heart I thank God for our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose love for humanity prompted her to share her discovery with a waiting world.—(Miss) Isabelle J. Miller, Hollywood, California.
