CHRISTMAS WITH CHRIST

When we see today's material demands make inroads into what should be a naturally joyous season, we long to do something to reverse these conditions and to find the truth in that oft-repeated salutation, "Happy Christmas to you." Even if the festive Christmas season has been dampened and darkened with unpleasant memories, the light of Christian Science—the Science of Christ, Truth—can wipe them all out and fill up the gap with the joys of ever-present and eternal good. God, good, is omnipresence. That which was an error never happened, whether it seemed to be disease, sin, or the death of one we loved; and the unrealities of evil cannot blot out the realities of Truth.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 260), "In Christian Science, Christmas stands for the real, the absolute and eternal, —for the things of Spirit, not of matter." Let us keep Christmas with the Christ, Truth. Every thought knocking at the door of our consciousness must be found in Truth and in Love's allness. Accepting only good, and rejecting all material so-called laws and evil beliefs, be they a claim upon our past, present, or future happiness, we shall realize a joyous Christmas.

Different plans are often made at Christmas time and questions asked, such as, "Where will you go?" or, "Whom will you be with for Christmas?" How gladsome would be the results if with honest, earnest realization we could mentally respond, "I shall be with the Christ in thought and deed, not only on that special day but throughout the season preceding and following."
