When I was about twenty years...

When I was about twenty years of age hope for my life was given up. I had been under a doctor's care and in bed for about six months, due to heart and lung trouble, and I was too weak even to feed myself. Business acquaintances of my father advised him to get a Christian Science practitioner for me. At first he would not consent, but when it appeared that I could last only a matter of hours, he changed his mind, and a practitioner was sent for.

Through her explanations of Truth the Bible was illumined; certain passages seemed to shine out, and in the light of Christian Science I understood them for the first time. When I got a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, its study gave me further understanding of God's nearness and allness. It was wonderful. I forgot my physical condition entirely and studied only to know more about God. In three days I was up and doing work about the house, never feeling the least bit tired. There has been no return of the heart and lung trouble.

Soon I withdrew my membership from my former church and was accepted for membership in a Church of Christ, Scientist. I am most grateful for class instruction from a devoted teacher. Christian Science means everything to me.—(Mrs.) Florence S. Smith, Modesto, California.
