Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy...

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 369), "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood." Late one afternoon I was discussing with a friend the importance of doing prayerful protective work in Christian Science for the welfare of our homes. Shortly afterward I went out for dinner.

As I was returning home and was about two blocks from my apartment, there was a terrific explosion. Many people on the street began to run to public shelters. When I reached my apartment building, the lobby was crowded with police, firemen, and tenants. A lounge directly below my apartment had seven large panes of glass broken, and a plate glass window across the street had been shattered. Although the explosion had occurred in the tier of apartments above mine, my apartment was intact. Not a pane of glass was broken, and everything was as orderly as when I had left.

I am deeply grateful for this proof of the protective power of Christian Science, for having had the privilege of attending the Sunday School, where I received my early religious training, and for activity in branch church work, in which I have participated for many years.—(Mrs.) Ruth Lund, New York, New York.
