Thirty years ago Christian Science...

Thirty years ago Christian Science healed me of an unsightly goiter, together with many other ailments and problems. I had been treated for more than two years by the family physician and by specialists, had undergone various painful treatments, and had used many drugs, but to no avail. The only thing left for me to do was to have an operation, the doctor said, but my physical condition would not permit this; so I was ordered to rest until I was stronger.

Having been reared in a Christian home and taught to take my troubles to the Lord in prayer, I prayed to know what to do. As I was meditating a few days later the words Christian Science came to me so clearly that I was almost frightened. I could think of nothing else; so I decided to investigate this Science, about which I knew almost nothing except that there were practitioners to explain it. I obtained the telephone number of one and called her. The voice I heard sounded peaceful and loving. I explained my condition and asked the practitioner if Christian Science could help me. She lovingly assured me that when we turn unreservedly to God the answer is always awaiting us. She asked me to come to her house, which was eight blocks away, and I agreed to do so.

It was not possible for me to walk that far, but I was taken to see her and was with her for about an hour. She spoke of the unfailing power of divine Love and lovingly explained that God is Spirit, that man, made in His image and likeness, is spiritual, never material or physical, and that God is our Life, our hope, and our strength. After agreeing to work for me she gave me some citations to read in the Bible and lent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
