ONE INDIVISIBLE REVELATION

Revelation is the unfoldment to human consciousness, through divine inspiration, of the spiritual facts of Truth. Individuals who have been spiritually-minded enough to receive, in a degree, these spiritual ideas, have become prophets and seers, and their spiritual vision has dispelled much material sense, endowing them with a greater capacity to reflect the divine nature. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 295): "The manifestation of God through mortals is as light passing through the window-pane. The light and the glass never mingle, but as matter, the glass is less opaque than the walls. The mortal mind through which Truth appears most vividly is that one which has lost much materiality —much error—in order to become a better transparency for Truth."

In proportion, then, to our purity and receptivity to good does God reveal Himself to us, and this revelation shines through us, so to speak, giving ourselves and others a higher sense of Life and its expression. To keep our thought pure for this purpose is to obey Jesus' injunction (Matt. 5:16), "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

It is essential to understand that Christian Science is revelation and not the evolution of human thinking. Christian Science is the complete and final revelation of God to mankind, and this revelation was able to reach humanity only through the exceptionally pure spiritual-mindedness of Mrs. Eddy. She was, to use her own metaphor, the clear windowpane which let in the light of Truth, and, as the revelator of the divine Principle of scientific mental healing, her work is complementary to that of Christ Jesus. Christian Scientists recognize and are grateful for the clarity of the windowpane, while giving all glory to God.
