Q. E. D.
In the proving of a geometrical problem or proposition there is a step-by-step process of intelligent reasoning leading to the demonstration of the mathematical truth set forth as the primary fact. It concludes with the usual sign or symbol Q. E. D., quod erat demonstrandum, that which was to be demonstrated. To be accepted as true, the mathematical fact has to be demonstrated.
In Christian Science, or the Science of Mind, this is even more strikingly true, for the divine and absolute facts are constantly being proved and demonstrated in what is termed treatment or prayer. Scientifically speaking, the only thing we can truly demonstrate or prove is the great fact that God is All-in-all. Actually, Truth demonstrates its own truthfulness. God demonstrates His own omnipotence. We are, through intelligent spiritual knowing, proving that God is the only action, the only presence, the only power, the only substance. The evidence of these divine facts appears humanly when someone says: "I have regained my strength, and I am able to walk again. My limbs are normal in their action. I have been healed of paralysis."
A Christian Science healing therefore is the human evidence that God is the one and only presence—Immanuel, or "God with us." Christian Science treatment does not mentally outline a human objective or result. We do not demonstrate jobs or money. We do not mentally outline a physically well body in the place of one that is ill. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer, Founder, and revelator of Christian Science, tells us in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 261): "Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality. Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts."
