"The best sermon ever preached...
"The best sermon ever preached is Truth practised and demonstrated by the destruction of sin, sickness, and death," writes Mrs. Eddy on page 201 of Science and Health. The following experience is an example of this profound truth.
One day a small sore appeared on my side. At first I thought it to be only a pimple, but it continued to grow and became very painful, at times almost unbearable. After I had worked prayerfully and faithfully without making any progress I engaged the services of a Christian Science practitioner. Two days later the situation had grown worse, and I called the practitioner. He told me that with the work he had done the healing should have taken place. He also said that if there was resentment in my thought it should be cleared out through my seeing others as God's ideas, expressing only love toward me—another divine idea, which in turn loved them. He recommended that after thoroughly cleansing my consciousness I rehearse my blessings and express gratitude for everything that Christian Science had done and was doing for me. This was about ten o'clock in the morning.
I firmly resolved to follow the practitioner's directions and did so to the best of my ability. At about one-thirty in the afternoon the sore drained, and the pain ceased. I am grateful for this healing, mainly because it took place as the result of my own endeavor to think rightly, together with the consecrated work of the practitioner. It awakened in me a deeper sense of gratitude for Christian Science and for all the good that it is doing throughout the world.
