DAY OF RESURRECTION

When Jesus prophesied his death and resurrection, he said he would rise on the third day. Since time is but a human measure of limitation, and Jesus was proving man's freedom from mortal limitations, he must have referred to a spiritual state of thought. It was his understanding of God, Life, that enabled him to rise from the tomb on the third day.

On page 584 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines "day" in part as "the irradiance of Life." Continuing, Mrs. Eddy states, "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded."

The good that was unfolded to needy humanity on that glorious resurrection morn outshines time and sense. Truly it was the irradiance of Life bursting upon a discouraged and confused group of disciples and followers with such power of proof and understanding that they went forward to heal and preach with fresh impetus and unprecedented courage and fidelity. The realization that Jesus was not a victim of death, but willingly offered himself on the cross in order to demonstrate resurrection, removed all doubt and uncertainty. They then understood his words and works as they never had before.
