SUBSTANCE

The substance of the next year's springtime trees,
The bloom of summer and the fruits of fall,
Is not in blueprint, warehouse, or decrees;
Love's bounty comes before we think to call.
As surely as the spring will bud again
And autumn trees wear jewels in their hair,
We know our faith in Love is not in vain;
We know that where we are, God's love is there.
