Through an experience which divine Principle alone could have made possible, the words found in I Corinthians (2:9) have become clear to me: "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

In 1949 my mother, who was not then a student of Christian Science, was suddenly taken ill with severe abdominal pain. The doctor's diagnosis, based on a laboratory analysis, called the condition cancer of the liver. The doctor said there was no hope for my mother. My father's fear was great, for he too believed that nothing could be done about the condition.

However, I did not allow myself to be confused, but clung to the truth day and night, steadfastly rejecting the erroneous suggestions that arose. I faithfully attended the Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings at a Church of Christ, Scientist; and in this way I received a great many protecting and supporting thoughts. A Christian Science practitioner worked earnestly and confidently for my mother, and gradually improvement began to appear. No medical treatment was given after the work was taken up in Science. When the root of the error, a long-standing hatred, was uncovered and destroyed through the spiritual work being done, the healing took place spontaneously and quickly.
