THE UPWARD WAY

In Christian Science we have found an upward path leading us from the desert and desolation of materialism into the clear and calm glories of Soul. This way is the Christ, the consciousness which includes all that is Godlike, pure, perfect, and spiritual. It is through the Christ that the sick are healed; it is through the Christ that comfort comes to the mourner; and it is through the Christ that the stains of sin are erased.

In Christian Science, emphasis is always on the Christ. The questions then come: How can I be sure I understand the Christ? How can I become more vitally aware of its power? The answer can be given in Jesus' words (Matt. 7:16), "Ye shall know them by their fruits." It is by the healing results which we obtain in our practice of Christian Science that we can be sure we companion with spiritual understanding.

Perhaps you are one of those who for long weary years wandered in fruitless quest for health and mental serenity; perhaps you tried materia medica and it failed; or perhaps you investigated spiritualism and it proved empty. Eventually your search led you to Christian Science, and you were aware of a great peace and spiritual expectancy. In that moment you caught your first glimpse of the star which the Wisemen followed to the cradle throne at Bethlehem. You then felt a sense of joy and comfort, like a lonely traveler in a strange land who has found a friend.
