Dubuque, Iowa (First Church).

Dedication services for First Church of Christ, Scientist, Dubuque, Ninth and Bluff Streets, will be held at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday, November 30....

Early meetings of Christian Scientists in Dubuque began in 1892. Gatherings of a few students in private homes were followed by regular Sunday meetings as numbers increased.

On May 27, 1892, the first church services were held in the Facade Building on W. Ninth Street. From 1894 to 1896, members met in the Universalist Church at Tenth and Main Streets and from 1896 to 1900 in a building at Ninth and Main. Services were held in Temple Hall at Ninth and Locust from March, 1900, to August, 1903.

The present site was purchased in May, 1903, and a house on the lot was remodeled for church purposes. Upon completion of the present building in 1911, the Christian Science Reading Room, which had previously been maintained in several downtown offices, was included in the church.

Besides regular Sunday School and church services, testimony meetings are held at 8 p.m. every Wednesday.
