Peace On Earth

Pupils in the Christian Science Sunday School from the primary classes to the oldest groups are taught to practice true brotherhood. They are taught the First Commandment. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3), and they understand that all men have one divine Mind and reflect and express the love of God. With this attitude toward others, they learn to be peacemakers in the true sense of the word, for as our Leader. Mary Baker Eddy, states in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 205), "When we realize that there is one Mind, the divine law of loving our neighbor as ourselves is unfolded." Thus the promise (Luke 2:14), "On earth peace, good will toward men," which ushered in the birth of mankind's Saviour, becomes to the pupil not merely a beautiful song for the Christmas season but a divine actuality to be demonstrated in their even day living.

The following excerpts from letters received from Sunday School superintendents and teachers show that the pupils are aiding the establishment of peace on earth by their daily practice of true brotherhood:

"A mother of a six-year-old Sunday School pupil said that one morning her daughter told her that a schoolmate acted in a very unfriendly manner toward her every time they met. Among other scientific truths the mother reminded her daughter of God's love for His children and of their love for each other. That night the daughter remarked: I got the best of error today. When I met that girl and she acted unfriendly to me, I smiled at her, and she smiled back.'"
