"Beloved Christian Scientists...

"Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany by Mrs. Eddy, p. 210). This admonition has been a daily source of help to me for many years.

When a very dear aunt recommended that I turn to Christian Science for a satisfying way of life, I assured her that I should like to do so but that I could not accept all its teachings. "Use what you can accept," she said. "You must learn to walk before you can run."

My first healing was that of severe ivy poisoning, which our two boys and I had contracted. When the discomfort seemed more than I could bear, I called a practitioner and asked for help. In a few hours all signs of my trouble cleared up, and a second treatment healed the two boys. I was convinced that I needed Christian Science, and I began studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly each day.

Soon I felt the desire to join a branch church, but I found that I would first have to discard the smoking habit, which had been with me for ten years. Simply through my studying the Lesson all desire to smoke vanished, and chronic constipation disappeared at the same time. There have been many healings since then, including one of asthma. Although this healing was slow, many fears were uncovered and destroyed, and complete freedom was finally obtained.

Three years ago it became necessary for me to work outside my home. I decided to brush up on my shorthand and to get work as a stenographer. Although it had been twenty years since I had used my business training, I was given employment by an attorney. I requested help of a practitioner and held to the truth that I reflected divine Mind, which knows all and never forgets. At first my shorthand notes were utterly unintelligible, but as I prayerfully clung to the truth they improved, and I gradually found myself transcribing with ease.

About this time I was asked to be soloist in a branch church. It had been many years since I had sung, and I had much fear to overcome. Each Sunday I held to God's injunction to Moses (Ex. 4:12), "Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say." Before long my weekly solo became my greatest joy.

My gratitude is boundless to the practitioner who has helped me through the years, and I am very grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve in a branch church. The literature Mrs. Eddy made possible is a continual inspiration. In gratitude for the help of Christian Science in raising a family and maintaining a harmonious home I can only say, "Thank You, Father, for Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy." —(Mrs.) Wenonah Wheelock Sparks, Verndale, Minnesota.
