Signs of the Times

From a message by the Archbishop of York to the Liverpool University Jubilee in the Daily Post Liverpool, Lancashire, England

The recognition that all truth comes from God saves from excessive departmentalism and the over-specialization which destroy unity and co-operation both in knowledge and action. Personality and freedom are both protected by the belief that every individual is of value in the sight of God, and that therefore he must have opportunities of using rightly the talents God has given him.

It is in those countries where God has been rejected that truth is treated as relative, the individual degraded, and freedom denied.... Our universities are rightly open to men of all, or of no, religion. But all who share in their life should be given opportunities of facing the ultimate problems of existence. Many, if they do so, will come to see that in Christ is found the most satisfying revelation of truth.
