MAN IS NEVER LONELY

Some people find it difficult to live with themselves, to be alone with their thoughts. Others yearn for the presence of those who have passed on or of those who dwell in distant places. On the occasion of anniversaries, or at the Christmas season, or other seasons of the year, those who have no immediate families or friends are sometimes overwhelmed by self-pity, loneliness, and despair.

In the Bible we find interesting experiences showing how men have overcome such discordant mental suggestions. When awakened from these senseless dreams, they have realized the presence of divine Love and found themselves in the immediate company of its comforting and companioning angels. Then despair, loneliness, and self-pity fled, and great joy and accomplishment followed.

During a long and self-searching sojourn deep in the desert Moses kept the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law. He undoubtedly spent many hours in prayer and meditation. Finally loneliness, self-pity, and self-condemnation were overcome to such an extent that Moses was ready to hear and obey the voice of God. Then he went forward on his great mission of leading the children of Israel out of the bondage of slavery into the promised land. In his service for others Moses found strength and release from the beliefs of loneliness and despair which had held him in mental slavery.
