Because a friend, who later became my husband, was led to present Christian Science to me, my gratitude to God is immeasurable. As I review the past, I can see how the leavening influence of the Christ, Truth, was preparing my thought to be receptive to Mrs. Eddy's revelation of the promised Comforter.

Before taking up the study of Christian Science I was frequently troubled with streptococcic infections of the throat, and one of the most outstanding healings I have experienced was that of an extreme attack of this illness. Late one afternoon I began manifesting the symptoms of this ailment, and I found it necessary to go to bed. I became frightened, and that evening my husband called a practitioner.

I was so mesmerized by the feeling that I was close to passing on that little progress was evidenced the first day. To help in arousing my thought Spiritward my husband suggested that I read an excellent article in a current Sentinel. The article referred to the Bible, story of the child Samuel, who heard his name called and ran to Eli, saying, "Here am I" (I Sam. 3:5), thinking it had been he who had called. Eli told the child to go and lie down again, as he had not called. When this happened the third time, Eli perceived it was the Lord who was calling Samuel and told him to answer if the call came again. When God called again, Samuel answered (verse 10), "Speak; for thy servant heareth." Then he received the message that God had for him.
