Vashon, Washington (First Church)

Almost forty years of history was behind the dedication of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Vashon, last Sunday. The church was started in 1914, when a small group met to hold services in the Odd Fellows Hall. Prior to that, meetings were held in private homes.

With increased attendance and interest, the need arose for a Sunday School. Since no room was available members decided to build a church at Ellisport. Construction was started, ... and the first service was held in the new building on Sunday, April 30, 1916. Christian Science Society, Vashon-Maury Island, was officially recognized as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. June 10, 1924.
