"Trust in the Lord with all thine...

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Prov. 3:5, 6). Out of gratitude for the guidance and protection which these verses have given me I should like to share an experience in the hope that it may be helpful to others.

My work as an interior decorator called me to another state, and though the call seemed urgent, there were uncertainties pertaining to it which made me reluctant to accept the work. I was led to look up a passage in the Scriptures that had been called to my attention once when I was working on a business problem (II Cor. 8:12-14): "If there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality." Against my human judgment I accepted this direction and wired that I would go.

Upon arrival I found that my previous feelings seemed to be justified: the hotel owner was greatly concerned over the many delays in the renovation of the building and was in no frame of mind to sign my contract for decorating. It was a temptation to forget the whole thing, but instead I took the necessary human footsteps and returned to New York to assemble the materials so as to be able later to submit plans and estimates.
