In the study of Christian Science...
In the study of Christian Science I have found the pearl of great price. Eighteen years ago, when I was experiencing loss and despair, a friend asked me to accompany her to a Wednesday testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist. I shall never forget the joy that came to me when I heard the various testimonies, all of which showed how God meets our human needs. I borrowed the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and read it with a great sense of gratitude. After the teachings of the orthodox church which I had attended for many years, I found the chapter on Prayer illuminating.
Later I sought the help of a practitioner, and through her loving and unselfed work I was healed of asthma, which had troubled me for many years and for which doctors had told me there was no cure. I am very grateful for being freed from this and other erroneous conditions, and also for the protection as well as freedom from fear I experienced during the air raids on London. Supply has been demonstrated in many ways, and I have been enabled to do work in which I had had no previous experience. In this connection the fear of age was in a measure overcome when, in contemplating the words from the Christian Science Quarterly, "The evening service is a repetition of the morning service," I realized they could be applied to man's unchanging service to God.
Above all, I am grateful for the spiritual understanding of creation, including man, which Mrs. Eddy, our revered Leader, has given us, and for her loving and unselfish life. How can we ever cease to love and revere her for the great gift she has given to mankind? Also I wish to express my deep gratitude for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church. My great desire is to show my faith by my works and to be a faithful steward in the Father's service.—(Mrs.) Ethel Ann Roberts, West Worthing, Sussex, England.
