GLORIFY GOD IN THE FIRES

The prophet Isaiah, after describing in vivid detail the desolation to be wrought on the land because of the transgression of its inhabitants, gives this stirring admonition (Isa. 24:15): "Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the fires."

Glorify God in the fires! Why? Because through the fires of affliction we are roused to the necessity of destroying the errors that produce affliction. How often we have gone along indulging some erroneous belief, particularly if it happened to be a pleasurable one, until the harsh influence of adversity has compelled us to seek a change of thought and so to glorify God in the fires.

How do we glorify God in the fires? By expressing His qualities even in the face of affliction. By our courage, our steadfastness, our willingness to eradicate from thought whatever is unlike God. Yes, by our absolute trust in God, our joy, our gratitude that will not be silenced.
