FROM ANNUAL REPORTS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Friendly Relations with the Press

Hertfordshire, England

Our harmonious relations with the editors of the local newspapers continue to grow. During the year two more papers commenced publishing the excerpts taken from the Christian Science Quarterly Lesson-Sermon. As a result of this, and notwithstanding the continued newsprint restriction, a further increase in the total number of excerpts published can be reported. More especially is there cause for gratitude as the reluctance of the editors to print the portion of the Lesson-Sermon pertaining to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy has disappeared. With one exception all papers this year have from time to time included it and given Mrs. Eddy's name as author.

Another indication of the editors' increasing and respectful recognition of Christian Science was evidenced when The Citizen (Letch-worth) invited the local clergy of various denominations to contribute to a series of articles entitled "What Do You Know of Your Church?" to exemplify the beneficial effects of religion on the history and life of the nation. This Committee approached the editor concerned, requesting that Christian Science be included in the series. The editor graciously explained that although the series was intended only for "the main religions" he would accept an article from us. Approval was duly obtained from the Manager of the Committee on Publication in Boston, and the article appeared, entitled "What Do You Know of Christian Science?"
