It is now over half a century since I became acquainted with the teachings of Christian Science, and I think it is about time that I acknowledged through a testimony in one of our periodicals some of the main benefits that Truth has brought to me.

As a child living in the Middle West, I was thought to be underdeveloped for my age, and therefore each summer during school vacation I was taken to an aunt who lived on a ranch in the state of washington. This aunt was a student of Christian Science, and while I lived with her I attended a Christian Science Sunday School. I received excellent teaching, and the first seeds of Truth which were implanted in my consciousness unfolded later and sustained me when I was in great need.

In 1921 my wife and I were living in Shanghai, China, and I had been ill and under a doctor's care. Upon awaking one morning I made the remark that I was going to try Christian Science. That very day we unpacked a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which had been given to my wife by a friend. This friend had been completely healed in Science of tuberculosis in the last stages. We also visited a Christian Science Reading Room and purchased a Bible and a Christian Science Quarterly. The attendant there showed us how to read the Lesson-Sermons in the Quarterly. From the time I turned from medical care and received my healing, we have been greatly blessed in many ways through the help of our teacher and other practitioners and also by our study and understanding of Truth as taught in Science.
