Several months after I turned...

Several months after I turned to Christian Science I was healed through the loving help of a practitioner of what the doctors called a chronic nervous stomach condition. Later, when I was attacked by an intestinal disorder, I tried to help myself by declaring the truth I knew concerning man, but I was no better. I was very ill and weak, and we did not have a telephone at our apartment. When my husband left for work the next morning I asked him not to mention to anyone that I was ill, but to telephone a practitioner who lived some distance from us.

Upon examining my thinking during the day I found that I had been entertaining resentment against someone I knew. I realized that this was not right, and remembering Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 405), "Hatred inflames the brutal propensities," I prayed to God for forgiveness. The next day I was no better, but I continued my reading of the textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health, and did not give up faith that I would be healed.

I recalled the definition of "faith" as given by Paul in Hebrews (11:1) and kept repeating it. Then came to my thought Jesus' command to the impotent man (John 5:8), "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk." Immediately I got out of bed and had lunch with my husband. Later in the afternoon I dressed and surprised him by having dinner ready when he came home from business. I felt completely well, and there was no sense of weakness or of having to regain strength. The next day I telephoned the practitioner that the healing was complete.
