In "Rudimental Divine Science"...
In "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 1) Mary Baker Eddy defines Christian Science, "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony."
Through the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I have proved that God's great goodness is demonstrable. My first positive proof of healing came when our three-year-old son was healed of influenza. He had a very high temperature, and, rigid with fear, I was watching by his bedside when a dear friend came in. Seeing the situation, she lovingly explained a little of the unreality of matter as understood in Christian Science. I remarked that this sounded like good sense to me. This friend then told me how to get in touch with a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner said she would help me and asked me to read the ninety-first Psalm. I did so. The fear left me, and the child went to sleep; in less than an hour he was perfectly free from the trouble. This was proof enough to me of the healing power of Christian Science. When this child was near the age of five years he was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School, and my husband and I began attending the church.
On another occasion, when this child and I were riding in the mountains, his horse bolted and ran down a steep hill onto the highway, where cars were traveling at high speed. I saw the boy throw the reins out of his way in an attempt to get off the horse, and I shouted to him to stay in the saddle. I dared not try to overtake him, for he was riding a trail-leader horse, which would not allow another horse to pass. In my extremity I turned my back on the mortal mind picture and said: "Dear God, he is in Your hands. Please take care of him." I was answered with a sense of peace and complete assurance that all was well.
