On page 548 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Earth has little light or joy for mortals before Life is spiritually learned." From childhood I entertained a fear of death and later thought that it was the only way out of my troubles; but when Christian Science came into my life I learned that death is an enemy that must be overcome, and not the gateway to heaven. In the Bible we are told, "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death" (I Cor. 15:26); when I saw this I was healed of the desire to die.

During the past ten years we have had many blessings. One Sunday morning when we were returning home from Sunday School, one of our twin boys, then about seven years old, said to me, "Mother, I am not on the 'discord and dismay' side; I am on the 'Science and peace' side." This child had been fearful and nervous since birth, stammering badly when excited, but Christian Science had healed him. His remark, based on the statement in Science and Health (p. 96) which Mrs. Eddy makes concerning conflicting world conditions. "On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will he Science and peace," helped me to get on the "Science and peace" side myself. I had been troubled and confused, as we had been having financial worries. From that time on, our financial difficulties began to right themselves.

While the boys were quite young, one of them accidentally shot himself in the cheek with a box's rifle, causing the cheek to swell and become inflamed. However, with Christian Science treatment it cleared up in a few days, and there were no aftereffects and no scar.
