LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Christian London, England

The article "What Do the Christian Scientists Teach" in [a recent] issue ... does not present a picture of Christian Science that anyone familiar with the subject would recognize as correct, Those who may desire to learn and judge for themselves what Christian Science teaches can do so by reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

It would take too long to deal with all the points in the article which do less than justice to Christian Science, but it can be said emphatically that Christian Science does not deny the efficacy of prayer. The first chapter in Science and Health is entitled "Prayer" and contains the sentence, "Prayer, watching, and working, combined with self-immolation, are God's gracious means for accomplishing whatever has been successfully done for the Christianization and health of mankind" (p. 1).
