WHAT MAKES TRUTH WORK?

When Christ Jesus stood in the judgment hall before Pontius Pilate and said that he was in the world to "bear witness unto the truth" (John 18:37), the Roman ruler bluntly asked, "What is truth?" This question, a basic point in the minds of thinkers from earliest times, had already been fully answered by the words and works of Jesus, who proved conclusively that Truth is God, good.

Today Christian Science is repeating the remarkable healings effected by Christ Jesus, and another question presents itself, "What makes Truth work?" Truth, or God, is adequate to correct any mistaken concept held by mankind, and the Christ is the divine activity of Truth at work in human consciousness correcting falsity and error. We have but to look within ourselves to see the corrective Christ at work. Whenever honesty replaces dishonesty, love ejects hate, industry routs laziness, or intelligence takes the lead over impulse, we have evidence of the way Truth works.

Christian Science shows that it is the natural function of Truth to be forever expressing good. In order to experience divine harmony one has only to bring his thoughts into line with the good and the true to recognize man as the rightful spiritual heir to the kingdom of heaven.
