In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" we read, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Pref., p. vii). The truth of this promise written by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I have seen manifested as I have gained more and more understanding of Christian Science.

Before hearing of this Comforter I diligently searched theology and the Scriptures for knowledge of God. I longed for what Solomon prayed for in these beautiful words (I Kings 3:9): "Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart... that I mas discern between good and bad."

From childhood I tried in vain diets and medicine for relief of severe stomach pain, which I believed was caused by an inherited chronic condition. Various physicians were consulted over a period of ten years, and material means subscribed to for this difficulty. To do my required daily work seemed an effort that frequently left me exhausted and fearful at the end of a school day. After a second medical operation, which brought me no relief, I met a friend who was a Christian Scientist; she gave me some copies of the Sentinel, which I read. The discovery that God's goodness and understanding are now available and that Christian Science heals was wonderful to me. I was healed of headaches and the need for glasses while I was first learning of God through reading our Christian Science literature.
