The desire to lend encouragement...
The desire to lend encouragement to those seeking healing in Christian Science prompts me to relate healing experiences I have had during the past several years through understanding to some extent Mrs. Eddy's definition of "angels" as given on page 581 of the Christian Science textbook. Science and Health: "Angels. God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality."
Prior to a knowledge of Christian Science I frequently suffered from abscesses. Through Christian Science treatment an internal abscess was healed when I obeyed the angelic message (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 18):
Be firm and be faithful; desert not the right;
The brave become bolder the darker the night.
More recently a badly strained wrist was healed. No specific work had been done for the condition, and the healing came about in quite a surprising way. The left hand, wrist, and arm were very painful when I awoke in the morning. Mrs. Eddy's comforting message kept coming to me (Science and Health, p. 192). "The good you do and embody gives you the only power obtainable." I read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly: and later in the day the pain and swelling were gone, and I was free.
A healing of stomach poisoning came when I accepted this comforting message (ibid., p. 291): "No final judgment awaits mortals, for the judgment-day of wisdom comes hourly and continually, even the judgment by which mortal man is divested of all material error." I was released from a terrifying sense of fear of passing on in this instance through the help of a practitioner, and the healing was immediate.
I am grateful to God for these proofs of divine healing; I am also grateful for all of Mrs. Eddy's writings and our periodicals. My life has been bettered in every respect through my study of this Science.—(Mrs.) Minerva Ellen Johnson, Del Mar, California.
