For the many blessings that Christian Science has brought me and the new purpose in life it has given me, I am grateful to God.

I first became interested in this Science through what seemed to me at the time a miraculous healing of one of my friends. Because of this healing, my wife, who was suffering from the results of a bad spinal injury, was persuaded to consult a Christian Science practitioner. Her case had exhausted the skill of the doctors, and our material resources were depleted. Her progress was so rapid that I began attending church with her regularly.

Soon we applied for membership in the local Christian Science Society, and before I knew it, my many healings began. Serious attacks of gall-bladder trouble stopped, and varicose veins were disappearing. The practitioner, with whom my wife and I were both working, knew that I smoked to excess and drank in moderation. She remarked to me one day, "If you expect to become a member of The Mother Church, you will have to stop both habits entirely."
