I am most grateful for the privilege...
I am most grateful for the privilege of having been brought up by Christian Science parents. This Science was introduced to them by my grandfather, and after reading the textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, they at once accepted its wisdom. My grandfather became interested in Christian Science through attending a Christian Science lecture. He was a devout Bible student, and he saw the truth and practicality of this Science. Without any thought of healing, but with a desire to learn more of this wonderful truth, he began reading the textbook. A long piece of flesh that had hung from his hand as a result of an accident in boyhood soon disappeared.
Christian Science was our only physician. One of the many healings I had in childhood was that of scarlet fever. I was healed in twenty-four hours. Most of all, Christian Science has served as a protection and has been a staff at all times.
Before graduating from high school, I was healed of the fear of going out into the world by talking with a practitioner, and the way opened for a pleasant position, which started the Monday after graduation. Because I was always healthy, I was surprised when informed, after a medical examination required by the company, that I had a diabetic condition and that I could accept the position only on trial for two months with weekly examinations by the company doctor. As I felt no discomfort, I treated the situation lightly, and as the close of the two months drew near I jokingly conveyed the medical opinion in the course of conversation to a dear friend, a practitioner. In a few words she showed me that the situation was something to overcome and not to ignore. I did not ask for help, but I am sure it was her instant pure thinking that brought about the perfect report at the final examination.
