OUR PARENT

When Christ Jesus counseled (Matt. 23:9), "Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven," he set forth unequivocally the fact of God's fatherhood and indicated the manner of making this fact practical in daily experience, more over, he explained the true sense of relationship in these words (Mark 3:35): "Whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother."

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 262), "The foundation of mortal discord is a false sense of man's origin." And in the same paragraph she points out that "divine Mind is the only cause or Principle of existence."

Many of us are not aware of the extent to which a belief in human parentage may govern and influence daily experience. We are apt to accept the notion that children's abilities and characteristics will be similar to those of their parents, forgetting that God is the real Parent and that His ideas reflect only what He gives. Man has nothing except that which comes to him by reflection from God, and all that God is or has man expresses.
