Christian Science came into my...
Christian Science came into my life at a time when ill-health had limited my normal activities. My happiness was overshadowed with doubt and fear, and I longed for freedom and peace, I had been a stanch member of an orthodox church, but when my questions concerning spiritual matters were not satisfactorily answered, for a time I stopped attending church, although I never actually gave up the search for the truths I longed to know. I was away teaching at this time, and on my return home one week end I picked up a copy of The Christian Science journal which my brother had brought into the house.
Because of some negative statement I had heard regarding Christian Science, I was strongly prejudiced against its Discoverer, Mrs. Eddy, and what I thought Christian Science to be. However, the desire to open and read the Journal was so overpowering that I finally gave in, and I read it from cover to cover. At first I got only glimpses of the underlying truths, but can then I knew I had found that for which I was looking.
I obtained a copy of the textbook, Science and Health In Mrs. Eddy, and began reading it. After finishing the chapter on Prayer, I became aware of the regenerating power of Christian Science; and after I had been studying only a short time, I experienced such a natural sense of buoyancy, joy, and freedom that I knew I was well. Glasses, which I had been wearing for eight years, were laid aside, and my vision was better than it had been even as a child. A heart condition of several years' standing disappeared, and its limiting sense gave way to freedom of mind and body. Constipation in a severe form was instantaneously relieved, and there has been no recurrence of the condition. Continual colds which I suffered from during the fall and winter seasons vanished, and warts which had covered both hands disappeared. All of these healings took place through the reading of our textbook while I still knew very little about the teachings of Christian Science.
