THE FATHER SEEKETH HIS OWN
When Christ Jesus explained to the woman at Jacob's well that true worshipers are those who worship God in spirit and in truth, he added a meaningful statement, which is sometimes overlooked. He said (John 4:23), "The Father seeketh such to worship him." On another occasion he said (John 8:50), "There is one that seeketh and judgeth." Throughout the Scriptures runs the strain that God is ever seeking His own, ever blessing those who are ready to put off the false material sense of life for the true consciousness of life in Spirit.
This is not a personal search, a singling out of favored personalities. Christian Science shows that when good controls one's life, this is simple proof that so-called mortal mind is yielding to the presence of Spirit and its immortal spiritual creation; that some measure of human resistance to divine reality has disappeared. With sublime impartiality divine Love provides infinite good to all—health, abundance, joy, power, wisdom, usefulness, harmonious associates, and right environment. "Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him," said the Master (Matt. 6:8).
God's judgment of our readiness to receive His bounty is just, for it acts through law; and nothing can prevent our receiving all good, once we are prepared to part with the evil material beliefs that seem often to dominate human character. Spirit perpetually shines upon the mist of mortal sin and ignorance, and it influences the seeming human mind, through the law of omnipotent good, to give up error and let the light of Truth be revealed. One's turning to Truth is of itself proof that the law of Mind's allness is asserting its power over falsity and establishing the truth where ignorance of reality has seemed to be. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 208), "Like a legislative bill that governs millions of mortals whom the legislators know not, the universal law of God has no knowledge of evil, and enters unconsciously the human heart and governs it." And a few lines later she adds, "All states and stages of human error are met and mastered by divine Truth's negativing error in the way of God's appointing."
